Absolutely. I had a painting teacher who would look at me hesitating in front of my canvas and tell me, “don’t be precious with it!” Having some preparation in hand about what’s coming up for this book down the road keeps me from being too scared to try! I definitely made that mistake with a few short stories, haha.

This is great! Thanks, Joe! I’ve been hard at work on a novel the past few months. Although I’ve got a long road ahead before I’m ready to start shopping it around, it’s best to be prepared early!

I personally use both! I use duotrope to track everything, and I love the way it lets you see when people have been responded to (to kind of give you an idea of where you are on the docket). It’s also just so comprehensive and I find so many more writing opportunities there than on Submittable. However! So many people use Submittable and that’s how I most often submit my work, so I just check both daily :).

Hi again! I know almost nobody posts here, but I kinda figure if I keep going other people will feel encouraged to? It would be wonderful to keep in touch and see where everyone’s heading.

It’s been a really wonderful past few months in my writing life; I’m now making the same amount of dough writing as I was teaching only six months back! It’s pretty wild to see it turn around, but I’ve been persistent every day in achieving my goals. I’ve sent out a short story to the world and am waiting to hear back, and have also been working on a novel(!), so my creative game is goin’ strong, but I’m cranking out articles a’plenty these days.

Anyone else in the article-writing circuit? I’d love to hear what y’all do!
